When we started planning 2 years ago, YouLi didn’t exist, so I decided to create it, or at least part of it. The vision: create a platform that allowed me to communicate with my guests about what they were getting into and allow them to create customised itineraries from the options I provided. With the excellent and rapid development skills of Filip Cichy, we were able to bring this vision to life.
This expanded to include costs and payment as well, so in the end my guests were given about 15 choices regarding optional experiences on the full 7 day tour and a full accounting of all experiences available each day.
I worked with a travel agent with expertise in the Middle East manage the creation of the tour and make sure all the pricing worked out. Sue Beard of Spice Road Travel made sure that everything that YouLi presented to our guests became a reality on the ground. Most of the tour was pre-paid and the things that weren’t were clearly noted. This was a completely customised tour for our group and then each individual was able to get their own sub-version of that.
The result was an adventure that we will not soon forget, See some of the best photos and read all about the wedding at my personal blog.
Having a tool to keep track of when everyone was arriving/departing and who had opted into which activities made my life so much easier. My experience planning the travel aspect of a destination wedding has shown how valuable it can be and I plan to turn our prototype into a fully functional product later this year.
If you are planning an epic destination wedding or other equally amazing group event, I’d love to hear from you to help shape YouLi into a product that makes it possible to ditch the excel spreadsheet and start coordinating with fellow travellers in a platform designed for people who live to travel.
